Alima de Graaf
Fact-checker and video page editor
Alima de Graaf is interested in combining different methods—from ethnographic fieldwork to open-source intelligence (OSINT)—to research the stories that people tell about themselves and the world around them.
Alima (researcher, writer, editor) studied social and cultural anthropology at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, with a minor in Conflict Studies, and at the Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany. She specialized in visual anthropology during her studies in Berlin and completed a certificate program in the field at the ENAH in Mexico City.
After working at the publishing house Archive Books and in collaboration with different visual artists for a few years, she joined DW’s video department in 2022. In 2024, she completed the DW KOMPAKT journalism traineeship. Since 2025, she is part of the DW fact-checking team.
