Autism Awareness Day: Nigeria tackles myths with awareness

Nigeria is marking World Autism Day with its biggest-ever screening drive. The nationwide initiative, "Spark a Spectrum of Possibilities 2026," offers free screenings and consultations aiming to improve early diagnosis and support for thousands of children. Nigeria is set to mark World Autism Day on April 2, with the largest coordinated autism screening event in its history. It has mobilized neurologists, schools, parent groups, and state governments across virtually all 36 states and the federal capital, Abuja. The nationwide initiative, "Spark a Spectrum of Possibilities 2026," will offer free screenings and consultations in teaching hospitals, community centers and schools, aiming to improve early diagnosis and support for thousands of children. The celebrations will also feature a symbolic 500 km (310 miles) cycling journey by autistic Guinness World Record holder Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo‑Okeke and a major music advocacy concert in Abuja promoting awareness and inclusion.
