Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has launched the Tropical Forests Forever Facility to curb deforestation by making forest preservation financially viable for developing nations.

Norway pledged $3 billion, and Germany voiced strong support, with Chancellor Friedrich Merz promising a "considerable" contribution.

The initiative highlights the Amazon's role in climate protection, biodiversity and global carbon storage — though Germany's economic constraints may affect its climate financing abroad.
