Danger remains in Indonesia in the wake of volcano eruptions

Supiturang village in East Java lies in ruins after Mount Semeru erupted, forcing residents to flee as ash and mud advanced rapidly. No casualties have been reported, but homes and infrastructure were destroyed. Semeru, Indonesia’s tallest volcano, last erupted in 2021 killing 51. Despite danger, locals farm fertile volcanic soil in restricted zones. Nearby villages were also devastated, leaving communities to rebuild under constant threat of new eruptions.
