Germany, Turkey reaffirm ties despite Gaza disagreement

Turkey is a pivotal partner for the European Union and NATO. On his first official visit to Ankara, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz sought to deepen ties. Though Merz clashed with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Gaza, both leaders emphasized cooperation and mutual interests.

Talks focused on Eurofighter jets, NATO security, and Turkey's EU ambitions. Though Merz said Israel had a right to self-defense, Erdogan condemned the war in Gaza as genocide.

Despite tensions, both leaders emphasized cooperation and mutual interests.
