Matthias von Hein | Nina Werkhäuser
January 28, 2023

Some of India´s most important rivers originate in China. That raises concerns about the possible weaponization of water resources. Especially, since conflict has been simmering for decades, as the border between the two countries is disputed, with frequent outbursts of fighting, as in December 2022. DW hosts Isha Bhatia and Lewis Sanders are joined by experts Antara Goshal Singh and Farwa Aamer.

Could conflict with China make taps in India rund dry?

Welcome to DW's podcast Global Eyes. In this episode we discuss the effect the India-China border dispute could have on the water resources in the region. The latest skirmishes between Indian and Chinese soldiers happened in December 2022. They are evidence of decades of conflict over a more than 3.400 kilometer long border between two nuclear armed neighbors. This conflict could play out on the availability of water for millions of people as some of India's most important rivers originate in China. Our hosts Isha Bhatia and Lewis Sanders are joined by Antara Goshal Singh, China Fellow at the Observer Research Foundation and by Farwa Aamer, Research Analyst at The Stimson Center who shed some light on this important issue.
