Iran: State rallies mark Islamic Revolution anniversary

Weeks after mass anti-government protests and bloodshed, thousands march in Tehran to mark the 1979 revolution. Critics say the rallies aim to project strength and unity despite deep divisions exposed by recent unrest.

The 1979 Islamic Revolution toppled Iran's monarchy nearly five decades ago and brought the late Iranian cleric Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini to power.

At Azadi Square in Tehran, President Masoud Pezeshkian used the anniversary rally to address rising international pressure over Iran's nuclear program.
