Irregular migration 'a trigger point for radical parties'

Germany is working on reforming its asylum system to curb irregular migration. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt told DW that any abuse of the individual right to asylum must be fought "to the best of our abilities."

DW's Rosalia Romaniec spoke with Germany's Interior Minister, Alexander Dobrindt, about migration.

The following is an excerpt from the interview.

Alexander Dobrindt: From day one, we took the decisions needed to make sure that border controls are tightened, people are turned away, and family reunifications are suspended, that fast-track naturalization was rolled back. We've addressed many other topics, too, and it's proving successful. Initial asylum requests have gone down by 60%, which is clear evidence that illegal migration is declining significantly.
