Nigeria confirms cooperation with US strikes on IS targets

The United States launched airstrikes on Islamic State targets in Nigeria's Sokoto State on Thursday. Nigerian authorities denied Trump's claim of mass killings of Christians amid mixed reactions to the US intervention.

The US strikes followed warnings from Donald Trump over what he claimed was the "slaughter" of thousands of Christians.

Sokoto State lies in Nigeria's far northwest, bordering Niger. Jihadist groups have waged an insurgency in northern Nigeria since 2009, though the government says both Christians and Muslims are targeted.
