Russia marks Victory Day as the Ukraine war drags on

Amid tight security and a partial internet shutdown, Russia marked Victory Day after agreeing to a brief ceasefire in Ukraine. In his speech, Russian president Putin invoked Soviet victory to bolster support for the war in Ukraine.

For the first time in nearly two decades, Russia marked Victory Day on May 9 without its usual display of military hardware. The parade commemorates the Soviet defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.
