Tanzania is sitting on a billion dollar gold mine. It ranks third on the list of the continent's gold producers, behind South Africa and Ghana. But the population has seen little of the wealth as the mines are firmly in the hands of international companies. This has led to protests and violent clashes in the North Mara region on the border with Kenya.
