US fast-tracks Middle East arms, as Europe faces delays

The United States has fast-tracked $8.5 billion in emergency arms deals for Middle East partners. Allies in Europe, meanwhile, have been told to expect long delivery delays.

The US is fast-tracking more than $8.5 billion (€7.2 billion) in emergency weapons sales to Middle East allies, while European partners have been warned to expect long delays.

Columbia professor Stephen Biddle told DW emergency powers are being used to bypass legislative oversight and that the Iran war is draining US munitions, limiting its ability to support Europe and Ukraine.
