Venezuelans on edge as Trump escalates rhetoric in Caribbean

December 3, 2025

As the US continues its military buildup around Venezuela, President Donald Trump has broadened his threat against Latin American countries.

Amid rising tensions with Venezuela, the US has deployed 15,000 troops and naval vessels, including the USS Gerald R. Ford, to the Caribbean.

President Donald Trump has threatened more airstrikes against alleged drug cartels and warned of closing Venezuelan airspace.

Venezuela's President Maduro has remained defiant, calling for "peace with sovereignty."

Although an invasion seems unlikely, Trump's escalating rhetoric and military buildup have raised fears of a regional conflict.
