A deep sea paradise under threat

It takes a certain kind of species to not only survive, but thrive in the dark, thousands of meters below the surface of the water. At hot-water vents around the world, creatures live off the chemical energy that flows from underground volcanic activity. Such places are a paradise for biologists striving to understand evolution and discover new species.
