A mortar bomb fired from Syria landed Wednesday in southern Turkey province along the border with Syria, no casualties were reported yet, an official statement said. The mortar shell landed in a field near Hacipasa hamlet of of Altinozu town in Hatay province at 4:15 p.m. (1315 GMT) on Wednesday and was retaliated immediately by Turkish border forces, said the statement issued by Hatay Governor's Office, Turkey. Eine nicht explodierte, amerikanische Steubombe vom Typ Blu 24 liegt am 11.9.2003 kurz vor ihrer Vernichtung in einem Gebüsch in der Ortschaft Nam Tom nahe Phonsavan in der Provinz Xieng Khuang im Norden von Laos. Einheimische Erkundungsteams haben innerhalb von einer Woche 35 Blindgänger dieser Art in der Region gefunden und entschärft. Sie wurden von Experten dazu ausgebildet, die von der dänischen Regierung bezahlt wurden. In neun Jahren wurde bislang ein Gebiet von 1980 Hektar von Bomben gesäubert. Die Blindgänger stammen aus der Zeit zwischen 1964 bis 1973 als das Gebiet ein Schauplatz des Kriegs zwischen den USA und dem laotischen Hmong-Volk und den Pathet Lao-Rebellen und vietnamesischen Kommunisten war.

Streubomben wirft ein Langstreckenbomber vom Typ B-1B Lancer der US-Luftwaffe bei einer Übung am 5.11.2000 ab. Inzwischen setzen die USA in Afghanistan auch Streubomben ein, es mehren sich die Nachrichten über Opfer unter der Zivilbevölkerung. Cluster-Bomben gelten als umpräzise, können aber große Flächen zerstören. Eine einzige Bombe kann bis zu 450 Quadratmeter verwüsten. Der Grünen-Bundesvorsitzende Kuhn sagte am 13.10.200, die USA müssten gefragt werden, ob der Einsatz von Streubomben erforderlich sei. Auch die Bundesregierung müsse ihren Teil zu einem besonnenen Vorgehen beitragen. Grundsätzlich gelte, dass militärische Aktionen nur ein Teil der Konfliktlösung seien.
