In Südafrika fand kürzlich ein Prozess zwischen 39 Pharmakonzernen und der südafrikanischen Regierung statt. Bei dem Rechtsstreit ging es um die Frage, ob Südafrika internationales Patentrecht brechen darf, um seine 4,7 Millionen Aids-Kranken mit preiswerten Medikamenten zu versorgen. Die Konzerne zogen am 19.4.2001 unter dem wachsenden internationalen Druck ihre Klage zurück.
