Buddhist monks reach Washington after 108-day peace walk

Nineteen Vietnamese monks have drawn widespread attention in the US on a peace walk that began in Texas last November. Supporters said its message resonated with them amid a divided political climate.

Nineteen Vietnamese Buddhist monks — joined by a rescue dog — have arrived in Washington, D.C., after more than 100 days on foot from Texas, crossing nine states through storms, ice and snow.

The journey drew tens of thousands of followers on social media and ended with a large welcome in the US capital.
